Michael is the head honcho—the brains—behind STAR Heating & Cooling. He refers to himself as a “Jack of all trades and master of none.” He started the business in 1987 and is the chief cook and bottle washer. He oversees keeping STAR’s more than 1,500 residential and commercial customers cool in summer and warm and cozy in winter.
Running STAR is a family affair for Michael. One of his sons, Donovan, works as a service technician, while another son, Gabe, works as a service technician. And daughter, Sarah, is the operations manager. The team at STAR is ever-growing to meet the needs of its customers.
Opening STAR evolved from Michael’s years of teaching heating and cooling business classes at ITT Technical Institute (3 years) and 17 years at Ivy Tech. Prior to that, he attended Devry Institute of Technology, Louisiana State University—Shreveport, St. Meinrad Seminary in Southern Indiana, Marion College, and IUPUI. Michael holds a bachelor’s degree in English literature. He also holds membership in various HVAC professional organizations, including Refrigeration Service Engineers Society (RSES), Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA), and North American Technician Excellence (NATE).
Michael hails from Shreveport, Louisiana. When he’s not running STAR, he enjoys being a grandfather, playing the guitar, golfing, traveling, and watching movies.
Anthony installs residential and commercial heating and cooling equipment for STAR. Prior to joining STAR, he studied IT (information technology) and installed ATM’s for 10 years.
He says that, when given the opportunity to switch careers, he took full advantage of stepping into the field of HVAC, commenting it’s the best decision he’s ever made. Anthony started on the commercial side of heating and cooling, but is now learning the residential side, too. The part of his job he enjoys most is his daily interaction with the team at STAR. Plus, he commented that he enjoys learning something new every day.
Anthony grew up in Fairland and graduated from Brownsburg High School. He currently resides in Brownsburg with his loyal canine companion. Some of his favorite past times when not working include long-distance running and boating.
Carlos juggles installing both the residential and commercial side of heating and cooling equipment at STAR. He’s one of the newer members, joining the team about three months ago. He says STAR’s reputation—that of being an awesome family-owned business—is one of the reasons he wanted to work here. And, making STAR’s customers happy is a favorite part of his job.
Prior to coming to STAR, Carlos worked at another residential heating and cooling company.
An HVAC graduate of Midwest Technical Institute, Carlos was born and raised in Indianapolis.
He lives in Brownsburg and is the father of three girls and a boy.
Rachel greets residential customers who call STAR Heating & Cooling and she responds to their needs in her role as Customer Service/Dispatcher. She dispatches the technicians to service calls, in addition to scheduling appointments, handling invoicing, and overseeing accounts payable.
As one of the newest members of the STAR team, Rachel has been on board for three months. She says she loves the team. “They’re wonderful people.” And she’s inspired to help make this family-owned business even more successful.
While Rachel’s background includes working in customer service for eight years, she says dispatching STAR’s team of technicians is new to her. And, she loves getting to know the customers.
Rachel grew up in Pendleton, graduated from Pendleton Heights High School, and attended Ivy Tech Community College. She studied interpersonal relations and communication. Together with her husband, Donnie, she’s busy raising their three sons, Ethan, Eli, and Eryx. Her family and two dogs, Muggles and Norbert (both named after characters from the Harry Potter books) keep her busy. When she’s not a mom, Rachel enjoys making crafts and finding other ways to be creative.
Marshall came out of retirement five years ago to come to work for STAR as a Comfort Consultant. While he sells both residential and commercial HVAC equipment to customers, he prefers the residential side of the business, because he enjoys telling his customers about the advantages/benefits of going with a family-owned business, such as STAR.
Marshall has an extensive sales background and has been in the field of HVAC since 1974, including working in sales/engineering positions at Allison Transmission Inc., in Speedway. He attended IUPUI and studied engineering, in addition to taking numerous sales courses.
Born in New Castle, Marshall now resides on the north side of Indianapolis with his wife. He enjoys spending time with his 8 children and 17 grandchildren, and his favorite hobby is golf.
Matthew joined STAR Heating & Cooling in 2014. He is a residential and commercial installer and has recently been promoted to Residential Manager. While Matthew juggles both sides of the business (commercial and residential), he prefers working with homeowners, because he enjoys the customers and the team at STAR. He says he learns something new every day.
Since his junior year in high school (Fishers High School), Matthew always knew he wanted to pursue an HVAC career. Upon graduation, he took a position in maintenance at the balloon exhibit at Conner Prairie, while obtaining his HVAC training. His education included attending Ivy Tech and pursuing one year of schooling through Carrier. Once he became certified and obtained his EPA license, Matthew started working at STAR.
A native Hoosier, Matthew is single and enjoys sharing his down time with his dog, Buck. Together, they fish, hunt, and pretty much do anything outdoors, including cook out.
